Structural Optimization and Computational Mechanics Group (SOCM)

The SOCM group educates and develops numerical techniques and methods for analyzing, designing and optimizing systems.
The courses and research projects provided by the SOCM group are primarily focused on microsystems and biomedical systems. The SOCM group is part of the PME department.

Education

The SOCM group contributes to the educational programme in both the Bachelor and Master phase. The group provides lectures on both the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, like statics and non-linear mechanics and some special application fields, like microtechnology and optimization.

Research

SOCM's main research focus is on modelling and optimization of microsystems. This includes both fundamental and numerical research and experimental work. The main research themes are: optimization techniques, micro system fundamentals and design and biomechanics.
