Research SOCM

Chair: Prof.dr.ir. A. van Keulen

As systems become more complex and multidisciplinary, design of these systems also becomes more complicated. To assist design of such systems, physical models and computational tools are needed, as well as methods and tools for optimization of designs.

The SOCM group main research focus is on modelling and optimization of microsystems. This includes both fundamental and numerical research This includes both fundamental and numerical research. Experimental work is important for valorisation of the developed models.

Optimization techniques

The research targets enhancing the capabilities of today’s optimization techniques. Where we typically deal with shape and topology optimization.

Micro system fundamentals and design

Novel designs using unique actuation and sensor principles are developed, for instance, using Shape Memory Alloys (SMA) and thermal expansion.

Biomechanics

Our biomechanics activity is entirely focused on the bone ingrowths’ processes. In this context, we develop computational models for designing implants.
